AI Chat Assistant
What is Trevor's AI Chat?
Trevor AI includes a built-in conversational assistant — your personal AI planner. It understands natural language, can look things up, make changes, and handle multi-step requests — like an AI calendar assistant that actually takes action for you.
- Natural language interface for managing tasks, calendar, and settings
- Acts on your behalf: creates, edits, schedules, and organizes
- Available to all users (Pro users get more capable models)
How to Open
- Floating chat button in the bottom-right corner
- Works on desktop and mobile
- Anonymous users can ask about features; sign in to manage your data
What You Can Do
Task Management
- Create tasks: "Add a task called Prepare presentation, 2 hours, due Friday"
- Create with priority: "Add an urgent task: Fix login bug, due today"
- Edit tasks: "Change the duration of my Prepare presentation task to 90 minutes"
- Set priority: "Mark the Deploy feature task as high priority"
- Complete tasks: "Mark Buy groceries as done"
- Search tasks: "What tasks are overdue?" / "Show me all urgent tasks" / "List high priority tasks due this week"
- Delete tasks: "Remove the task called Old project cleanup"
Smart Scheduling
- Schedule a task: "Schedule Prepare presentation for tomorrow at 2pm"
- Auto-schedule: "Schedule my top 3 tasks for this afternoon"
- Create & schedule in one step: "Add a meeting prep task at 10am tomorrow, 30 minutes"
- The AI respects your work hours, calendar availability, and scheduling preferences
Calendar Management
- View events: "What's on my calendar tomorrow?"
- Create events: "Add a team standup at 9am every weekday"
- Move events: "Move my 3pm meeting to 4pm"
- Cancel events: "Remove Friday's dentist appointment" — this deletes the event. To just unschedule a task (return it to the Task Hub without deleting), say "Unschedule my task" instead.
- Recurring events: "Set up a weekly review every Friday at 3pm"
- Complete & stop recurring: "Complete this week's standup and stop the recurrence"
Lists & Organization
- Create lists: "Create a new list called Side Project, color blue"
- View lists: "Show me all my lists"
- Manage visibility: "Hide the Completed Projects list"
- Set defaults: "Make Work my default list"
Settings & Preferences
- Work hours: "Set my work hours to 8am-5pm on weekdays"
- Scheduling preferences: "Set my default task duration to 45 minutes"
- Calendar display: "Which calendars do I have connected?" / "Hide my personal calendar"
- Scheduling blocks: "Create a Deep Work block from 9am-12pm on weekdays" (Pro)
- Link lists to blocks: "Associate my Work list with the Deep Work block" (Pro)
- Personal context: "Set my role to product manager" / "Update my work context to software development" — helps the AI tailor suggestions to your field
Integrations
- Check connected accounts: "What integrations do I have connected?" / "Show my integrations"
- Open integration manager: "Show me the integrations widget" — opens an interactive panel to connect or manage accounts without leaving chat
- Supports Google Calendar, Outlook, iCloud/CalDAV, Todoist, Google Tasks, and Microsoft To Do
Help & Support
- Ask questions: "How does Plan My Day work?"
- Report issues: "I'm having trouble with Google Calendar sync"
- Works even when not signed in — ask about any Trevor feature
Choosing Your AI Model
Trevor supports multiple AI models from OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google. Use the model selector in the chat header to switch between them.
- Economy / Standard / Premium tiers — each tier includes models at different capability and speed levels; Pro users get access to the most capable ones
Thinking Mode (Beta)
Use the thinking mode selector (next to the model selector) to control how the AI reasons through your request:
- Fast — Quick, lightweight responses. Best for simple tasks and quick lookups.
- Thinking — More deliberate reasoning. The AI spends extra time thinking through complex problems before answering. You can expand the "Thinking" section in any message to see its reasoning process.
Thinking mode is available for models that support extended reasoning (such as Claude and Gemini models). If the current model doesn't support it, the selector is automatically disabled.
Chat Slash Commands
Type these in the chat input for quick actions:
| Command | Action |
|---|---|
| /new | Clear conversation and start fresh |
| /help or /? | Show help information |
| /compact | Compact conversation to free up context for longer chats |
How Permissions Work
Trevor's AI assistant respects your privacy and asks before taking action:
- Reading your data — The first time the AI needs to access your tasks, calendar, or settings, it asks for permission. Choose "Yes, and don't ask again" to skip future prompts for that data type.
- Making changes — Before creating, editing, or deleting anything, Trevor shows you exactly what it plans to do and asks for confirmation. You always see a preview before anything changes.
- Progressive trust — As you grant permissions, conversations become faster and more fluid. You can revoke permissions at any time.
Tips for Getting the Most Out of AI Chat
- Be specific: "Add a 2-hour task called Budget Review to my Work list, due Wednesday" works better than "add a task"
- Chain requests: "Schedule my top 3 overdue tasks for today and tomorrow" — the AI handles multi-step operations
- Use it for discovery: Ask "What can you do?" or "How do I set up recurring tasks?" to learn features
- Mobile power user: On mobile, typing a chat command is often faster than navigating the UI
- Refer to tasks naturally: "the presentation task" or "my 3pm meeting" — the AI finds the right item
- Check your schedule: "What does my week look like?" for a quick overview
Messenger Integrations (Experimental)
Experimental feature
Messenger integrations are currently experimental. They may change or be removed in the future. If you run into issues, please let us know at support@trevorlabs.com.
You can use Trevor's AI Chat directly from supported messenger apps — same assistant, same capabilities, just in your preferred chat app. This is great for quick interactions like adding a task or checking your schedule without opening the web app.
Currently supported: Telegram
Setting Up
- Go to Settings > Messengers in the Trevor web app
- Find the messenger you want to connect (e.g. Telegram)
- Click Generate Link Code — you'll get a short verification code (valid for 10 minutes)
- Open the Trevor AI bot in the messenger app (the link is shown in Settings)
- Send
/link <code>to the bot with your verification code - Once linked, you can start chatting — messages go through the same AI assistant
To unlink your account later, send /unlink to the bot or disconnect from Settings.
Bot Commands
| Command | Action |
|---|---|
/start | Introduction and setup instructions |
/link <code> | Link your Trevor account using a verification code |
/unlink | Unlink your account from Trevor |
/new | Start a new conversation (clears chat context) |
/help | Show available commands |
How It Works
- Messages you send go to the same AI engine as the web chat — same tools, same permissions, same model
- Permission and confirmation prompts appear as inline buttons (Yes / No)
- Long responses are automatically split to fit the messenger's message limits
- Your messenger conversation is separate from your web chat conversations
Limitations
- You must have a Trevor account and link it first — there's no anonymous access via messenger
- Some rich responses that work well in the web UI (e.g. interactive widgets) may not be available in all messengers
- Rate limiting per messenger user is not yet implemented
What AI Chat Can't Do (Yet)
- Manage Todoist recurrence rules (must be set in Todoist directly)
- Create or edit calendar recurrence rules on integrated provider tasks
- Access progress reports or analytics data
- Manage billing rates or export reports
- Manage shared list permissions or team scheduling settings
